Dallas is one of the most famous cities in Texas and one of the most diverse. With a population of just over 1.3 million and the adjoining Fort Worth to the west, it’s a large, busy city with lots going on.

Originally founded for transportation, that is still a primary economic driver in Dallas but the city has diversified into defense, technology, telecommunications, financial services and general business. There is also an energy presence here thanks to the oil days of last century.

Getting around Dallas

Dallas began as a transport hub for cattle and goods and that infrastructure makes it easy to get around. Flying into Dallas will bring you into Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) with a DART station linking you directly to Downtown. Dallas Love Field (DAL) serves some national carriers.

Amtrak has two lines running into DFW, the Texas Eagle and the Heartland Flyer. Local rail is handled by the Trinity Railway Express and the A-Train. Light rail, the DART crosses the city too.

Buses are plentiful with Greyhound, Megabus, Echo Transport, El Expreso, Autobus Americanos, Turimex Internacional and Omnibus Mexicanos all running services into and out of the city.

Roads are plentiful as you would expect from a former transport hub. The Central, US-75 and I-45 run through the city with I-635, I35, TX-114, The Mixmaster and Woodall Rogers Freeway (TX-366) all ensuring traffic flows freely into, out of and through Dallas as much as possible.

Dallas has an upscale appearance with lots of high end hotels, fine dining restaurants, shiny cars and buildings and lots of designer boutiques. It’s also a down to earth place where blue jeans and Stetsons are commonplace. It’s a healthy mix of culture, lifestyles and ways of life.

Neighborhoods of Dallas include Downtown, East Dallas, Deep Ellum, Northeast Dallas, Old East Dallas, North Dallas, Far North Dallas, Oak Cliff Area, Oak Lawn, South Central Dallas, Fair Park and Lakewood.
