Putting together a top “to-do list” somewhere as rich and diverse as Anchorage is a tall order. It is an amazing place to live and work and we’re only too happy to share it with you. We have worked long and hard choosing this list and we think they represent the best of what our state has to offer.
Chugach State Park sits just outside Anchorage and provides a huge opportunity for hiking, sightseeing, animal watching and some stunning scenery. The tour offers a walk through the park with an experienced guide who will show you everything the park has to offer. A must see for any visitor.
This is a fishing experience any angler would be proud of. An escorted drift fishing day in the Kasilof river, one of the best fishing spots in Anchorage. It includes up to 5 hours of fishing in waters famous for their salmon
Fly from Lake Hood to Mount McKinley to experience the area as few ever see it. Fly over the Ruth Glacier, across the Denali and up the Great Gorge to the mountain. Fly around it then attempt a water landing inside the Denali National Park before returning home. This is the perfect opportunity to experience Alaska from the air and should not be ignored.
There are a number of glacier cruises run out of Anchorage and every visitor should try at least one. See the glaciers up close, watch for Beluga whales and other marine life as you gently cruise through fjords, inlets and bays to see Alaska as it should be seen.
If you like to enjoy every aspect of a destination, the this tour is for you. It’s a guided tour run by experienced historians that takes in some of the more culturally interesting sites in Anchorage. That includes experiencing our native inhabitants, hearing their stories, seeing traditional dances and demonstrations.
If you have ever watched the TV show, Ice Road Truckers, this is your opportunity to experience it first-hand. Enjoy a guided tour of the Carlile Transportation depot, be given a tour of a truck and time on the driving simulator used to get drivers used to the unique driving conditions in Alaska.
The Aurora Borealis is something every visitor to Alaska should experience. A 1.5 hour drive from Anchorage takes you to Fairbanks and the Ice Museum. From there you can enjoy the unique hot springs while waiting for the Northern Lights to appear. This is a truly awesome experience.
